Boone, N.C. - Oregon State’s season hit a new low Saturday. The Beavers fell 27–23 to Appalachian State, dropping to 0–6 for the first time since 1991. The loss marks just the fifth time in program history they’ve started a season winless through six games.
The company they’re keeping isn’t pretty. The only other 0–6 starts came in 1975, 1979, 1980, and 1991 — and in three of those four seasons, Oregon State finished 1–10. The 1980 team didn’t win a single game, going 0–11.
The Beavers had chances to finally break through but came up short when it mattered most. Quarterback Maalik Murphy threw for 358 yards and two touchdowns but also had two critical interceptions, both coming in the fourth quarter with Oregon State driving deep into Mountaineer territory.
