He was the legendary Brummie counterfeiter who became the only man in history to be "twice tried, twice hung, twice buried".

In the middle of a modern housing estate along Booths Lane in Great Barr lies the excavated foundations of a great 17th century farmhouse.

From what would have been this secluded spot, forger William Booth produced fake Bank of England notes before his manor was raided and he was put to death - twice - according to a Black Country folk song.

In fact, his fake bills, tokens and coins were said to be have been so good that they themselves sparked forgeries and became collectors' items.
