A 33-year-old man who rammed a police car in Melbourne’s east quickly came to regret his decision when he met Devil, a German Shepherd police dog who helped turn the tables on the accused crook.

The dramatic incident unfolded just after 6am on Saturday when a female police officer and her dog Devil were pursuing a three-car convoy on the Burwood Highway in Vermont South.

CCTV footage captured the moment the suspect rammed the police car, with the impact sending a Nissan Navara crashing through two light poles in a high-speed chase that ended with a bang.

The driver of the Nissan attempted to flee on foot after the crash, but the police officer had a secret weapon — unleashing Devil the German Shepherd to pursue the suspect.
