Political sign vandalism is once again a concern in Yuma County, with Republican leaders urging stronger enforcement and prosecution of offenders.
Greg Wilkinson, chair of the Yuma County Republican Committee, raised the issue during public comment at the Sept. 18 Board of Supervisors meeting.
He said vandalism has become a recurring problem during election cycles, costing campaigns financially and undermining the democratic process.
“In the last election cycle, our party suffered over $18,000 in damages due to sign vandalism,” Wilkinson said. “We were able to catch three individuals in the act. One of them, Julie Kay Miller – known locally as the ‘machete lady’ – was convicted after damaging signs with a machete.”
However, Wilkinson noted that Miller is now on the run with a bench war
