In a strange incident, the ram air turbine (RAT)—a last-resort emergency power system—of an Air India Boeing 787-8 aircraft flying from Amritsar to Birmingham was deployed shortly before landing in Birmingham on Saturday. The aircraft landed safely at the Birmingham airport, where it has been grounded for checks. The RAT is an emergency power system in aircraft that usually gets deployed during grave emergencies involving total electrical failure or a debilitating hydraulic failure. Curiously, all electrical and hydraulic parameters of the aircraft were found normal, according to the airline.
