Harry Kewell has received a career lifeline, with the Socceroos great appointed as manager of Vietnamese club Hanoi FC after more than a year in the coaching wilderness.

The V.League 1 club confirmed on social media that the 47-year-old Australian had taken over as the long-term replacement for Japan's Makoto Teguramori.

It is his first role since he was sacked by Yokohama F. Marinos in July 2024, less than two months after leading the Japanese club to the Asian Champions League final.

"With extensive experience in Europe both as a player and as a coach, coach Harry Kewell is expected to bring a breath of fresh air, contributing to raising the level of Hanoi Football Club on the journey to conquer domestic goals and the aspiration to reach the continental level," the club said in a stat
