CINCINNATI, Ohio — After Iowa State's first loss of the season, coach Matt Campbell told his players he couldn't be prouder of them.

Campbell wasn't proud of the result, a 38-30 defeat where the Cyclones fell behind by as much as 24 points late in the first half. But Campbell focused on more than just the scoreboard at Nippert Stadium on Saturday.

“The world wants a result," Campbell said. "And I get it, that’s our sport, that’s our profession. I care about attitude and effort. And I care about what kind of fight our kids have."

Iowa State scored 15 unanswered points in the second and third quarters, cutting the deficit to one possession and giving itself a chance to win.
