“What they’ve done to San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, they’re very unsafe places, and we’re going to straighten them out one by one.”

Those words, spoken by President Donald Trump last week, shouldn’t shock anyone familiar with the no-nonsense, tough-guy language used at MAGA rallies, let alone White House briefings.

It was what he said next, and to whom he said it, that was so terrifying.

Going to war with “the enemy within” Trump said, “is “going to be a major part [of the job] for some of the people in this room.

“[We] should use some of these dangerous cities as training grounds for our military,” he said.

Trump was not addressing a MAGA rally. He was speaking before nearly 800 of the nation’s highest-ranking military leaders, who had been summoned from their post
