The first-ever drone show in San Jose took place on Friday after the Fourth of July fireworks show was canceled following an explosion at a facility in Yolo County.
Music and food took center stage at Lake Cunningham Park before the drone show took place.
Many in attendance said the show "was amazing."
The city had to quickly pivot plans after the fireworks facility in Yolo County exploded, taking with it the supplies needed for the San Jose display.
"We had to figure out the budget because it's more expensive, more approvals from the federal aviation administration, from local jurisdictions," said Councilman Domingo Candelas.
The other goal the city had the challenge of meeting was deterring the public from using illegal fireworks.
