Demons got their Super League title defence off to a winning start with a 115-105 win over Cork rivals Neptune, but MVP Scott Hannigan conceded the champions needed “a good kick up the hole” to avoid defeat.

Neptune, under new coach Keith Daly, were quickest out of the blocks and were ahead by 12 points at one stage in the first quarter, before Demons reeled them in thanks to Hannigan’s efforts (17 points) and their new American player Sharrif Black (25).
