NORMAN — Just a year ago, true freshman Michael Hawkins Jr. was thrust into the heart of the Red River Rivalry .

An unpolished, but talented backup quarterback, Hawkins was forced to lead OU football into its most significant game against its most hated rival. His inexperience and the Sooners ’ inability to move the ball down the field showed in a Longhorn thumping.
