An Edinburgh schoolboy has returned home to his family after he was diagnosed with lung disease - caused by his pet parrots.

Kenny Kajan, 13, grew up with four of the tropical birds and wanted to be a breeder and a biologist when he grew up.

Now he can't even be near birds in public or use a feather pillow - after his pet birds put him in hospital. His mum, Iveta Kajanova, who lives in Leith with her husband and three sons, grew up surrounded by birds her entire life.

Kenny inherited her love for the animals but started having flu-like symptoms - including a cough and high temperatures. In March he was left 'breathless' and spent months with trips to the GP and eventually the hospital.
