MARIETTA -- Pope had a chance to provide its homecoming crowd with the season’s first victory, but Woodstock held firm and hung on for a 20-13 win in Region 6AAAAA play Friday.

“Credit to (Pope coach Sean) O’Sullivan and his staff. They’ve been fighting like crazy all year,” said Wolverines coach Dan Devine. “But we found a way. It wasn’t pretty, but we’ll take it anytime we can earn a win in this region.”

Woodstock improved to 5-2, 3-1 in Region 6AAAA using a dominant run game, rushing for over 130 yards and earning 11 first downs after halftime.

“Nothing was really clicking for us in the first half. We had to go in the locker room and get things straight,” said senior offensive lineman Maddox Mann. “We came out like we normally do and played Woodstock football.”
