LONDON — No. 8 is officially No. 41 .

Dillon Gabriel added his name to the lengthy and ignominious list of the Browns starting quarterbacks against the Minnesota Vikings inside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. When he took the field, he did so looking to end an even uglier streak for Browns rookie quarterbacks dating back to the 1999 expansion rebirth.

All previous 16 Browns quarterbacks to make their starting debuts lost them. The last to do so was the last rookie quarterback to start for the original Browns franchise: Eric Zeier, on Oct. 29, 1995, at the Cincinnati Bengals .

Gabriel didn't have to wait long, as the Browns started the game with the football. His first pass was a second-and-16 play fake back to a throwback screen to David Njoku for a 12-yard gain.
