Up to 100 bullets rained down on a busy shopping strip in Sydney’s inner west on Sunday evening as a man who police allege was armed with a high-calibre rifle fired indiscriminately from an apartment window.
One man was struck in the neck and chest and at least one bullet hit a police car, while numerous other victims suffered facial injuries caused by glass broken in the shooting at Croydon Park, which started about 7.30pm.
Tactical police eventually stormed the building and arrested the 60-year-old man two hours after his alleged shooting spree began.
Acting Superintendent Stephen Parry said that, following initial calls from residents who could hear gun shots, local police rushed to the apartment building on Georges River Road, with the man continuing to fire.
