FRANKENMUTH, MI – A horse died on Saturday, Oct. 4, while pulling a carriage through a popular part of Frankenmuth, police said.
Officers were called around 4:30 p.m. regarding a downed horse on the covered bridge near the Bavarian Inn.
Upon arrival, police found a horse lying on the bridge deck. Police believe the horse, which was pulling a carriage and traveling eastbound, suffered a medical issue and collapsed.
The act of the horse falling caused the attached carriage to tip slightly, police said.
A vehicle traveling westbound on the bridge was slightly damaged during the incident.
The driver of the carriage was not injured, and there were no passengers in the buggy. The deceased horse was returned to its farm.
