His 1,965-pound pumpkin was just 1 ½ lbs. short of the Port Elgin site record, set last year by Jeff Warner of Englehart, Ont.

And so, people must wait another year to see if the elusive 2,000-lb. great pumpkin will appear out of someone’s pumpkin patch. More giant pumpkins and other big vegetables will be weighed in today, the final day of the event. They’re mostly local and often smaller vegetable entries.
