The city of Cuttack remained on the boil on Sunday following violent clashes during Durga Puja idol immersion, prompting authorities to impose prohibitory orders, suspend internet services, and deploy additional police forces across sensitive areas.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has announced a 12-hour bandh on Monday, accusing the administration of “complete failure” in maintaining law and order.

CLASHES DURING IDOL IMMERSION

The violence broke out between 1.30 am and 2 am near Haathi Pokhari in Cuttack’s Daraghabazar area, when an immersion procession was moving towards Debigara on the banks of the Kathajodi river. According to police, the trouble began after some locals objected to the high-decibel music being played during the procession.
