This Day in History - October 5: Vice presidential debate hosted in Omaha

October 5, 1988 - Vice presidential candidate Lloyd Bentsen and Dan Quayle met for a debate at the Omaha Civic Auditorium on Oct. 5, 1988.

Judy Woodruff with PBS moderated and reporters from NBC, ABC and the Chicago Tribune questioned the two senators.

The comment “Senator, you’re no Jack Kennedy,” from Bentsen to Quayle is remark remembered and still used in politics today when a politician is thinking too highly of themselves.
