RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Hundreds gathered over the weekend to celebrate historic Jackson Ward at the 2nd Street Festival.

Several performers took the stage, including The Chuck Brown Band, DJ Drake and Mc Choco, Nathan Mitchell and many others.

This year, the festival celebrated its 37th anniversary, honoring 2nd Street’s role as the Harlem of the South.

In the early 20th century, especially from the 1920s to the 1940s, the street was recognized as the center of Richmond’s African American community, thanks to its prosperous black-owned businesses, cultural institutions, and entertainment venues.

This year’s festival offered attendees a range of activities, including free guided walking tours, a kid zone, artist row, and several food vendors.
