A Midlothian gift shop has issued a plea after their glass door was 'kicked in'.

Aila Bells Gift Shop in Penicuik said their front door was smashed in at around 10.39pm on Saturday, October 4. Owners said they had 'no words' and said that it is 'not what a small independent shop needs'.

It's understood that police have been made aware.

Owners posted online: "I have no words so won't even start.

"Police aware. This is not what a small independent shop needs at 10:39pm on a Saturday night you absolute scumbag."

Local residents were quick to support the gift shop after the incident. One said: "Thats so sad! Glad you are okay and hope they get the guilty culprits!"

Another posted: "Oh no!!!! This is so unfair, now both your business have been impacted by other people's thoughtless
