PORTLAND, Maine — Through blood, sweat, and tears, runners crossed the finish line at the 34th Maine Marathon. For some, the race was a first, while for others, it is an annual tradition.
In the first camp, Penny Haydar and Lexi Bugbee.
"We didn't talk all week, so we can talk the whole time; we have lots to talk about," Haydar said.
She and Bugbee have been running and training together for three years. They say leaning on one another makes the hard days easier.
"You're going to have bad days, so when you're having a bad day, it's nice to have someone else like, 'Oh, hey, like, we can do this,'" Bugbee said.
Out pounding the pavement Sunday morning were Amanda and Brian Manson. They can't recall how many races they've done together since they began a few years ago during the pandemic
