LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The city of Los Angeles joined a coalition of cities, counties, and local agencies in a lawsuit against the Trump administration over FEMA funding.

The lawsuit, led by Santa Clara County and the city and county of San Francisco, alleges the government has threatened to withhold more than $350 million in Department of Homeland Security and FEMA grants unless the municipalities assist in Immigration and Customs Enforcement efforts and abandon their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives.

The city attorney's office says L.A. could lose about $56 million in DHS grants.

In July, California also joined a multi-state lawsuit against the Trump administration for illegally shutting down a longstanding disaster prevention program.
