One defense Raiders coach Pete Carroll used for his team’s three-game slide earlier this week was that they had really only played poorly once, in a Week 2 loss at Washington .

Scratch that save-face argument from his repertoire going forward. The Raiders were merely bad in a 41-24 loss to the Commanders, but they were completely uncompetitive in a 40-6 loss at the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

Las Vegas fell to 1-4 on the year in a showing that must stand as the single worst performance by any team so far this young NFL season.

The blame must start with the 74-year-old Carroll himself. He arrived in town as the fifth coach in six seasons since the franchise moved to Las Vegas with promises that his energy and passion would be the difference to present a sharper product.
