Seven years after his 216-game elite rugby league career ended, Luke Walsh has been imbued with an old love.

And at the Koori Knockout in Tamworth on Monday, October 6, the former NRL and Super League playmaker hopes to inspire the Bourke Warriors - a team he first played for as a teen - to an upset win over two-time defending champions Walgett Aboriginal Connection (WAC) in the semi-finals.

The Warriors advanced to the showdown at the Plain Street Playing Fields by beating the Toomelah Tigers 18-6 in a fiery fourth round clash.

For their Newcastle-raised 38-year-old halfback, whose parents and grandparents hail from Bourke, it will be a chance to harness his ageing pedigree for an occasion far removed from the grand stages he has performed on globally.
