And, as it turns out, plate umpire Alex Tosi's performance in Game 1 of the American League Division Series between the Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers might've actually been even worse than it looked.

Tosi, a full-time Major League Baseball umpire since 2023 who is working his third postseason series, had a called-strike accuracy rate of 75% in the Tigers' 3-2, 11-inning win at T-Mobile Park in Seattle on Saturday, according to the highly regarded and well-followed Umpire Scorecards account on X, formerly Twitter. The average accuracy rate on called strikes, according to Umpire Scorecards, is 88%.
