EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Over a dozen people are without a home following an early Sunday morning apartment fire in Evansville .

According to a release from the Evansville Fire Department , around 3 a.m. on Oct. 5, EFD crews were called to the Cross Lake Apartments located in the 700 block of Biltmore Way , which is near Interstate 69 and the Lloyd Expressway on the east side of the city, on a report of a fire coming from the top of the apartment complex.

When firefighters arrived, they say they saw a heavy fire and immediately initiated a second alarm response to bring additional personnel and resources to the scene.

Crews worked aggressively to contain the fire, officials said, and that the structure sustained a partial roof collapse due to the damage. The fire reportedly took 50 minutes to
