LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - “A lot of the times when people see us they’re seeing us on their worst day,” Battalion Chief Derek Roberts said.
But that wasn’t the case Sunday.
“It’s nice to see everybody come out, have fun on a good day,” he said.
This year’s Fire Prevention Festival saw more than 4,000 attendees.
Roberts says the goal is to give families the tools they need to protect themselves in an emergency, including providing free smoke detectors and emergency plans.
“Sometimes it’s the kids telling the parents what to do, and that’s great. If we have kids that are telling their parents no we need a home safety plan to get out of the house,” Roberts said.
