Newly minted U.S. Marine Lucas Barrett received a hometown hero’s welcome this week, rolling through the gates of his childhood community to find families lining the street, a fire truck escort, and a parade that ended at his family’s home.
The celebration capped strenuous weeks of basic training that Barrett says tested his grit and determination
“It was weird, just turning the gate and I see a firetruck and I’m like, 'what’s going on,' and seeing everybody,” Barrett said. “It was cool. It was good to see everyone.”
Barrett graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot with the 2nd Battalion, Fox Company, continuing a proud family tradition that includes his older brother, stepfather, and grandfather.
