LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An ex-Louisville Metro Police detective has been ordered to report to prison to begin serving his federal sentence for violating Breonna Taylor’s civil rights.
Brett Hankison remained free while attorneys filed motions to appeal his 33-month sentence handed down in July.
Hankison’s attorneys said he received a date of Oct. 9 to report to the Bureau of Prisons.
In a motion filed on Friday, Hankison’s counsel is asking for 60 to 90 days extension before he must report.
“Additional time is necessary to permit this court to rule on the Motion for Bond and time for Mr. Hankison to present a Motion to the Sixth Circuit if necessary,” attorneys said.
A judge has not rule on that request.
