CLEAR LAKE — Clark-Willow Lake and Deuel are two of the state's best Class 11B high school football teams and proved it again on Friday, Oct. 3, 2025.
The Cyclones and Cardinals , who are each receiving votes in the South Dakota Prep Media Football Poll, squared off in a Northeast Conference battle that went down to the wire.
Joey Ries' fourth-down touchdown pass to Emmerson Larson with 1:17 remaining lifted the Cyclones (5-1) to a 20-14 victory over Deuel. The host Cardinals, also 5-1, suffered their first loss.
"Hats off to Clark-Willow Lake. They ended up making a few more plays than we did," Deuel coach Dusty Hourigan said.
Victory wasn't official for the Cyclones until Ky Vandersnick intercepted a Deuel pass with 33 seconds remaining and CWL ran out of the clock.
