Older state pensioners have been warned they face being cruelly left £8,000 short of a minimum living standard. State pension payments for Basic State Pensioners fall some way short of the £17,400 a year needec to achieve a minimum standard of living in retirement.

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation think tank has issued a warning for anyone who claims the Basic rate - because it is worth £9,175 a year. These state pensioners, born before 1951 if they're men and 1953 if they're women, are £8,225 short of reaching the think tank’s living standard threshold.
