The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) says thousands of eligible Brits missing out on benefit that guarantees free TV licence.

Currently, a TV licence costs £174.50 per year for a colour licence.

However, there are options for a free licence for people over 75 on Pension Credit or a 50% discount for those who are blind may apply.

Taking to social media, the DWP said: "Could you be missing out on Pension Credit? It is worth on average £4,200 a year; to receive payment and other benefits check your eligibility for Pension Credit and apply online."

Pension Credit may entitle over-75s to a complimentary TV licence, whilst also providing assistance with Housing Benefits for pensioners currently renting their accommodation.
