The Akron Police Department is investigating the possible homicide-suicide of two teenage girls, ages 17 and 18, in West Akron Oct. 5, Gary Guenther, chief investigator of the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office, said in a release.

Akron police responded to the area of South Hawkins Avenue and Peckham Street at about 12:15 a.m. for reports of shots fired, Guenther noted.

When officers arrived, the two victims were discovered with gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office will provide an update once an autopsy is completed.
