Transgender pupils at Renfrewshire schools already have dedicated toilet and changing spaces, the local authority has confirmed.
Education chiefs at Renfrewshire Council this week confirmed the provision of single sex and gender neutral spaces as they prepare to implement new guidance published by the Scottish Government.
The guidance states children must be provided with single-sex spaces, such as boys and girls toilets, but also additional bathrooms for children who identify with another gender.
Young people who are male but identify as female will not be permitted to use the girls toilets and changing spaces and vice versa. Previously, guidance suggested young people be allowed to use the facilities they “felt most comfortable” in.
