EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — East Haven is set to receive more than $4.8 million from the state for road improvement projects, according to town officials on Monday.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation approved the town's Local Transportation Capital Improvement Program application for significant roadway and pedestrian improvements to Main Street and Messina Drive. The funding provides $4,816,800 for eligible project costs.

The project is set to include paving main Street from the town hall to the New Haven line, plus Messina Drive from Hemingway Avenue to Main Street.

The Messina Drive improvements will also include a new traffic signal light, sidewalks and upgraded street lighting- all which officials hope will improve safety and accessibility.
