A blizzard on Mount Everest has left hundreds of hikers trapped on the world’s tallest mountain, with rescuers racing to get them to safety.

Tibetan authorities say 350 have been rescued from Everest with another 200 thought to still be stuck. It was initally feared 1,000 people were stranded.

Coming at a time of year when the temperature is usually still balmy in the Himalayas, a freak storm rolled in dumping snow on Mount Everest as well as torrential rainfall from Nepal, Bhutan and northeast India.

Floods and landslides in the region have left at least 60 people dead, with entire villages submerged.
