South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt might have sealed the Catch of the Tournament award for herself in just the seventh match of the 2025 Women’s World Cup with a brilliant leaping take to send New Zealand’s Lea Tahuhu on her way at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Monday.
It happened on the fifth ball of the 47th over. Tahuhu, a tail-ender, drove an uppish ball from spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba to covers. She got good power behind it, but not much elevation, and Wolvaardt did brilliantly to leap, get both legs in the air for a fraction of a second to grab it with one hand, almost behind her body. It is certainly one of the best catches so far and might stay that way for a month.
