Mariners’ Jorge Polanco joins Griffey, Martinez, Buhner in legendary Seattle history

If you were picking someone on the 2025 edition of the Seattle Mariners to make franchise history by hitting two home runs in a playoff game, there are a lot of candidates.

Cal Raleigh. Julio Rodriguez. Eugenio Suarez. Josh Naylor. Randy Arozarena.

But it wasn't any of them who did that on Sunday.

It was Jorge Polanco.

Polanco homered twice from the right side of the plate off of Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, giving Seattle a 2-0 lead that turned into a 3-2 victory to even the ALDS at a game apiece.

In the process, Polanco joined a short list in franchise history.

He's the fourth Mariners player to hit two home runs in a playoff game, according to the Mariners PR team.
