The Detroit Tigers have been here before. Well, not here , but close .

Just 364 days ago, give or take a time zone or two, the Tigers were heading home to Detroit for Games 3 and 4 of the ALDS with a 1-1 “lead” against the Cleveland Guardians in the second round of the MLB playoffs.

We’ll put “lead” in quote marks because, technically, yes , 1-1 is a tied series.

But back then, the Tigers had just stunned the American League’s No. 2 seed on its home turf. Just getting to 1-1 felt like a tremendous upset, considering that only a two-out, two-strike home run from Kerry Carpenter had kept the Tigers from potentially a 2-0 deficit in the best-of-five series.
