CHICAGO, Ill. (WTVO) — Federal tensions escalated Monday as Illinois and Chicago filed a lawsuit to block the deployment of hundreds of National Guard troops authorized by President Donald Trump. The move came just hours after a federal judge halted similar deployments to Portland, Oregon, and as troops prepared to mobilize.

The lawsuit, filed by Illinois officials, argues that the federal government’s actions are “unlawful and dangerous,” describing them as part of Trump’s long-standing “War” on Chicago and Illinois. “The American people, regardless of where they reside, should not live under the threat of occupation by the United States military,” the suit states, “particularly not simply because their city or state leadership has fallen out of a president’s favor.”
