A man in his 30s was shot and killed in San Diego's Linda Vista neighborhood early Monday.

Officers responded around 12:45 a.m. Monday to reports of shots fired near the Linda Vista Recreation Center at 7064 Levant St., according to the San Diego Police Department.

Police said they found a male victim in the park suffering from at least one gunshot wound, then began lifesaving measures until paramedics with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department arrived.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Investigators believe that the suspect, described as a heavy-set Latin man, approached the victim in the park and shot him.

A motive for the shooting has not yet been confirmed, and no arrests have been made, the department stated.
