The investigation into former USC and NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez has Monday led to the upgrade of charges to felony battery from what began as misdemeanors in connection with his role in a physical altercation with a 69-year-old man in downtown Indianapolis that left Sanchez with stab wounds.

Sanchez was arrested and charged but not booked into jail because of his injuries and remained hospitalized, but according to online court records he will have a court proceeding Tuesday.

“We received an amended or additional probable cause affidavit this morning” said Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears. ”And with that additional information we’ve added more serious charges against Mr. Sanchez at this point in time we have filed a level 5 battery charge of causing serious bodily injury.”
