(WFSB) - The first supermoon of the year will be visible Monday night, according to Channel 3’s meteorologists.
The moon will appear slightly larger and brighter.
It happens when a full moon is closer to Earth in its orbit. According to NASA, the moon will appear to be 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than the faintest moon of the year.
“It doesn’t mean it’s necessarily larger, it’s just the appearance of it,” said meteorologist Jill Gilardi. “It’ll have that little orange hue to it. It’s going to be pretty massive.”
Moonrise is 6:02 p.m. and sunset is 6:23 p.m.
October’s supermoon is the first of three this year.
Gilardi said that stargazers will also be able to catch a glimpse of Saturn, which will appear to the right of the moon.
