The provincial government will renovate and expand Timmins and District Hospital’s emergency department.

Designed to connect patients and families in northeastern Ontario with more convenient, high-quality emergency care closer to home, the move was announced by the Ministry of Health, on Monday.

The project is part of the province’s plan to protect the health-care system by making record investments in more than 50 major hospital projects across the province over the next 10 years, according to a ministry press release.

“Our government is making historic investments to protect Ontario’s health-care system, ensuring that more people in Timmins and surrounding areas can connect to the care they need, where and when they need it,” said Sylvia Jones, deputy premier and minister of Health.
