Connor McDavid signed a two-year, $25-million US extension with the Edmonton Oilers Monday, keeping him under contract through 2028.

The Oilers confirmed the news on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, saying the contract extension comes with an average annual value of $12.5 million.

Earlier, the Oilers' superstar captain confirmed the news on social media, where he posted: "Our journey here continues," with a photo of him and some teammates standing on the ice at Edmonton's Rogers Place.

McDavid was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, and getting him back under contract was the team's top priority.

"Connor's commitment to our team and our city is surpassed only by his singular focus on bringing a Stanley Cup back to fans of the Edmonton Oilers,"
