COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia Police are investigating after a man was hit and killed while walking along Garners Ferry Road on the southeast side of Columbia Sunday night.

The incident happened at 9:22 p.m. in the 6600 block of Garners Ferry, alongside the property of the Dorn VA Medical Center.

Officers said when they arrived to the scene, they found a man who was unresponsive in the roadway and attempted life-saving measures. Police said when EMS arrived, they determined there were no signs of life.

Investigators say from what they've been able to determine so far, a pickup truck was traveling east on Garners Ferry at the same tie the man was walking on the sidewalk. According to witnesses, the man appeared to stumble off the sidewalk and into the roadway, and that the pickup truck drive
