LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Firefighters are working to contain a wildfire that began Sunday in the north region of Michigan's lower peninsula.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) says the fire is located near Houghton Lake in Roscommon County. The fire was first reported early Sunday afternoon east of Old U.S. Highway 27, near the Clare–Roscommon county line.
The fire is estimated to be around 85 acres in a marshy area of mixed pine and hardwood forest.
“Crews have been working through difficult terrain to contain the fire,” said Jeff Vasher, MDNR lower peninsula resource protection manager, in a news release sent to 6 News.
“High winds have made suppression challenging, but firefighters are holding the lines and continuing to reinforce containment.”
