Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez is facing multiple criminal charges after police say he was the aggressor in a late-night altercation in a downtown Indianapolis alley.

On Oct. 5, the day after police announced his arrest and while Sanchez remained hospitalized for stab wounds, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office announced the filing of three misdemeanor charges including battery resulting in bodily injury, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication.

On Oct. 6, the case was upgraded to include a felony count of battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a charge that carries up to six years in prison.

Sanchez has pleaded not guilty. His attorneys, led by Jennifer Lukemeyer, declined a request for comment.
