WALHALLA, S.C. —

UPDATE: The boil water advisory has been lifted.

The City of Walhalla Water Department has issued a boil water advisory after a water line was struck and damaged by a contractor.

Water officials said customers along Westminster Highway from Mountain Road up to Kawana Trail and surrounding areas are under a 24-hour boil water advisory as of 2:30 p.m. Monday.

As a precaution, residents in the affected area are advised to boil all water for at least three full minutes before using it for drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth. Water does not need to be boiled for bathing or laundry.

Crews have completed the necessary repairs and restored service; however, due to the loss of water pressure, there is a possibility of bacterial contamination.
